Jonathon Hutchinson, AoIR2019 Conference Chair, is a lecturer in Online Communication and Media at the University of Sydney. His research explores the internet, public service media, cultural intermediation, everyday social media, and automated media. He is the Treasurer for the Australian and New Zealand Communication Association (ANZCA), the Secretary for the International Public Service Media Association (IAPMR), and is the current Program Chair for the Association of Internet Research (AoIR). Hutchinson is an award-winning author and his latest book is Cultural Intermediaries: Audience Participation and Media Organisations (2017), published through Palgrave Macmillan.

Jean Burgess (@jeanburgess) is a Professor of Digital Media and Director of the Digital Media Research Centre (DMRC) at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). Her research focuses on the uses, cultures and politics of digital media platforms. Her next book is Twitter – A Biography (with Nancy Baym, in press with NYU Press and forthcoming in 2019/20).

Elija Cassidy is a member of the Digital Media Research Centre and Senior Lecturer in the School of Communication at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia. His research focuses on cultures and practices of everyday digital technology use, non-use and resistant appropriation, with particular emphasis on digital equality and inclusion, gender, sexuality and CALD communities. Elija teaches several courses on digital media, digital ethics, and research methodology and is the author of Gay Men, Identity and Social media: A Culture of Participatory Reluctance (Routledge).

Michael Dezuanni (@dezuanni) is an Associate Professor in QUT’s School of Communication, and the Associate Director of QUT’s Digital Media Research Centre (DMRC). His research focuses on digital media and learning in home, school and community settings. He is the author of Peer Pedagogies on Digital Platforms – Learning with Minecraft Let’s Players (MIT Press – forthcoming, 2020).

Ariadna Matamoros-Fernández (@andairamf) is a Lecturer of Digital Media in the School of Communication at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), and member of the Digital Media Research Centre (DMRC). Her research focuses on the co-productivity of users’ practices and digital media platforms’ design and norms in contemporary articulations of racisms.

Peta Mitchell is an Associate Professor in QUT’s Digital Media Research Centre (DMRC) and School of Communication. Her research focuses on digital geographies, location awareness and mobile media, algorithmic culture, and network contagion. Peta is author of Cartographic strategies of postmodernity (Routledge, 2008) and Contagious metaphor (Bloomsbury Academic, 2012) and co-author of Imagined landscapes: Geovisualizing Australian spatial narratives (Indiana UP, 2016).

Nicolas Suzor (@nicsuzor) researches the regulation of networked society. He is a professor in the Law School at Queensland University of Technology whose research examines the governance of the internet and social networks, the peer economy, digital copyright, and knowledge commons. He is the author of Lawless: the secret rules that govern our digital lives (Cambridge, 2019).
