Where Did AoIR Come From?

Inspiration for the development of AoIR came from The Conference On The World Wide Web And Contemporary Cultural Theory held at Drake University, in November 1997. A follow-up meeting was held, informally, at the National Communication Association meeting in late November 1998 in New York. Most recently was a business and organizational meeting in late May 1999 at the International Communication Association conference in San Francisco which led to the forming of the Association and holding its first conference, IR1.0 – The State of the Interdiscipline in 2000.
