Toronto removed from list of areas with recent local transmission
2 July 2003
WHO has today removed Toronto, Canada, from its list of areas with recent
local transmission of SARS. The last probable case was detected on 12 June
and immediately isolated. When 20 days, or twice the incubation period,
have passed without detection of a new case, the chain of human-to-human
transmission is considered broken. Read

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome
9 June 2003
All areas of Canada continue to be safe and healthy destinations for
travelers. Travellers need not take any extraordinary health precautions
while visiting Canada. Visitors should observe normal good health practices,
such as frequent hand washing.
The Canadian Tourism Commission supports the efforts of Health Canada
in trying to identify and contain the spread of SARS.
The Government of Canada continues to take this issue very seriously.
Our public health scientific experts are continuing their investigation
and research and are working closely with the World Health Organization
and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to better
understand this disease and bring it under control.
The Canadian health care community encountered some successes in dealing
with the initial round of SARS. There is confidence that this newest situation
will be contained as quickly as possible.
The CTC wants to reassure travellers planning to visit Canada that we
will continue to provide them with updated information from Health Canada
so that they can remain informed. Within the framework of these considerations
and precautions, travellers should continue to look forward to their Canada
travel plans.
Screening Procedures for Travellers: The WHO recommended screening
travellers for SARS symptoms on international flights in and out of Canada.
Health Canada is providing assistance to airlines to conduct this recommended
screening.

Lire
