Infonomics
is defined as the interdisciplinary science studying the digitisation
of society. The International Institute of Infonomics is an interdisciplinary
institute of research. The aim of the Infonomics is to develop and
bring together relevant international knowledge and expertise to
study the digitalization of society from a variety of perspectives,
ranging from anthropology, linguistics, law, economics, mathematics,
to communication science, sociology, and business studies.
The University of Maastricht founded the International
Institute of Infonomics in collaboration with international institutes
such as Merit
and the McLuhan
Institute and a network of Dutch educational institutions. Infonomics
is also active in the field of higher academic education and will
develop new courses for a variety of different curricula and students:
economics, business studies, law, cultural sciences, communication,
informatics, psychology to name but a few.
The Association of Internet Researchers (AoIR)
is an academic association dedicated to the advancement of the cross-disciplinary
field of Internet studies. It is a resource and support network
promoting critical and scholarly Internet research independent from
traditional disciplines and existing across academic borders.
The association is international in scope. One of
its goal is to provide an interdisciplinary and interprofessional
organization for promotion of scholarly and critical research into
the social, cultural, political, economic and aesthetic aspects
